Such a contrast to the crispy dry foliage of late autumn in southern Australia!   Up the hill from Pasir Panjang Village, Kent Ridge Park is lush and moist and teaming with green! In spite of the heat, it was tempting to stay and watch the jungle grow around me.   Chocolate the labrador and I were glad of the view at the top of the hill – an excuse to catch our breath. Chocolate was more interested in the ants in the grass than the boats on the harbour!

There’s a couple of towns in Tassie that reckon topiary might put them on the map. Oatlands has a bit more substance than that (try shopping for grown-up garden accessories at Provincial Interiors or a customised pure wool Casaveen sweater) but couldn’t resist this symbol of local activity and purpose!

There are many reasons to stay at Avalon – fab architecture, great design, privacy, the sense of luxury at having all that space to yourself, the wallabies and kookaburras that come for breakfast, sleeping and waking with the sounds of the waves breaking …but most of all, The View.

The one day it poured with rain was the day I had time to think about taking more considered images than my usual happy snaps. Still, can’t beat a view that delivers an image like this inspite of the rain and the happy snapper!

You could bring your own picnic to this little bench with a great view over Binalong Bay…but you’d get a better view and someone else to do the washing up from Angasi Food Store just opposite.

The mist doesn’t diminish the beauty of the wide Tamar River. Makes the stop at Koukla’s (285 Gravelly Beach Road)even better – where else can you find a cheerful second family of Greeks whipping up great home-cooked food at any hour of the day?
