Now I’m going offline for a week or so. Time to catch up on some home time with MDH. I like to imagine that Brown Dog is waiting patiently by the dam. for me to throw her ball.

This brand of NZ sauvignon blanc caught my eye at Trader Vic’s in Tucson (mid level gourmet supermarket). It’s called King Shag. Surely they are joking?!
Cactus Country

Ain’t no neighbourhood out here in the mountains near Tucson! But I did learn the finer points of cactus from my lovely friends Kirsten & Eric – note the flowers on the top (it’s spring!) and the arms, which sprout at about 60 years old! Hard to see the detail in the background, but this is [...]

Spent the day writing up experiences in my cool mid-century inspired, beach shack look two-roomed suite here at the W Westwood. Actually finding the whole W experience a bit trying, but a useful case study for what NOT to do when designing hotel experiences for NEOs. Popped out for lunch to Lucques – voted Best [...]
Those palm trees!

Taken in suburban Los Feliz (east of Hollywood, north of Downtown), I was amazed by the height of these palms. Surely that’s not what the landscape architect had in mind??!!
Los Angeles – desert or oasis?

Not sure what this plant is – but the orange flowers bursting out of the twiggy thorns against the white wall was a stunning combo
