Luckily I’m not a dragon boater ‘cos I’d find it difficult to concentrate on paddling with this view around me! Taken out of the window of the baby ferry – the paddlers were moving faster than we were!

This gorgeous, professor branestawm contraption is featured at Granville Island in front of the concrete plant. Yes, a concrete plant 5 minutes from downtown. In the middle of an artists ‘colony’. The concrete trucks are the most colourful I’ve seen. Clearly colour is catching on here!

Security post at the development site for the 2010 Winter Olympics housing. Someone has taken great care to make sure we all know who the home team will be!

Soooo cute! These tiny ferries chug up and down False Creek…fit about 10 people on board. A great way to see the skyline. This would encourge me to be a commuter! What a great way to travel!

100? 100 what? 100 why? Just near the Granville Bridge – concrete numbers 2 metres tall. Who knows?
Boots Across The Ocean

You Aussies will be amused to see how the locals have used our iconic workboots for planter boxes! Cute, funny and somehow irreverent at the same time. Right outside the Blundstone Boot Shop in Kitsilano. What a great use for old boots – will put this idea to work in my own garden when I get [...]

Missed out on snapping the cute-as-can-be Oak Bay homes in Victoria (where they say life is carried on ‘behind the tweed curtain’). Here’s an example from across the park in Kitsilano, a comfortable waterfront ‘burb not far from the central business district.

At the end of my Canadian birthday, almost 48 hours after my Australian birthday started, I was sitting at Sooke Harbour House, looking out over the achingly beautiful water, watching otters turn and tumble in the silky grey water and toasting this return-to-base experience. Twenty-six years before I had celebrated my 19th birthday with much [...]
Happy Birthday to Me!

Started the day with a facial at the Willowstream spa at the celebrated Empress Hotel, thanks to my lovely Canadian twin-sister Deidre. I was riffing (with Self, not out loud) on how infantilised our society has become as I was bundled ever so kindly into my robe and then out again and tucked into a fluffy doona [...]
A great way to travel

Welcome to Vancouver – from the harbour! We took the ‘float plane’ from outside the State Parliament building in Victoria to downtown Vancouver this morning. Flew over the archipelago of islands that incite a desire to spend the rest of your life puddling about on the ferries exploring each one at ground level. A great [...]
